Press release:

ReadDavidson Kicks-Off its 2013 Season:

Wiley Cash’s A Land More Kind Than Home is This Year’s Pick

ReadDavidson announces A Land More Kind Than Home, New York Times Bestseller and the 2013 Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance fiction winner, as its pick for the fall of 2013.  ReadDavidson is a town-wide reading initiative where citizens are encouraged to read the same book and participate in free book-related events. This year culminates with a very special event, in partnership with the Book Clubs of Davidson: Author Wiley Cash visits town for “An Evening With Novelist Wiley Cash,” a free-to-the-public lecture scheduled for Thursday, October 24 at The Pines at Davidson at 7:00 p.m.

The ReadDavidson program started in 2007 as a partnership between the Davidson Public Library, Main Street Books, the Town of Davidson, and several local avid readers.  The ReadDavidson committee encourages people to read the selected book and attend fun and educational book-related events that make the book come to life.  The events are scheduled for September and October.  All members of the community are invited to attend these free-of-charge events.

“We are really excited about the line-up of this year’s events.  We’re particularly thrilled that Wiley Cash is coming to town,” said Michele Trovato, ReadDavidson Chairperson.

“This is the first year since Ron Rash visited us in 2008 to discuss One Foot in Eden that we’ve had an author come to Davidson for our program – it’s quite an honor,” said committee member Cristina Shaul.  “Last year Ann Patchett visited us via Skype.”

“We’ve partnered with some really spectacular groups this year to bring exciting and unique events to our community – the Book Clubs of Davidson and several Davidson College professors, to name a few,” said Trovato.

This year, the Book Clubs of Davidson is raising funds through sponsorships to help pay for Wiley Cash’s visit.  There is a fund-raising lunch on Thursday, October 24, hosted by ReadDavidson, where participating sponsors will be able to eat and talk with Wiley Cash.  The Book Clubs of Davidson is hosting a fund-raising dinner that evening, where Wiley Cash will be the guest of honor, and sponsors will be able to dine and converse with him.  Sponsors at the $250+ level are invited to attend the luncheon or dinner; one or two people per sponsorship may attend the meal event of their choice. For more information, please contact Susan Walker at

His visit culminates with “An Evening With Novelist Wiley Cash” at The Pines at Davidson, 400 Avinger Lane, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The ReadDavidson initiative would not be possible without the support of the following: Main Street Books, Davidson Public Library, The Book Clubs of Davidson, PostNet, Davidson College, Davidson Farmer’s Market, and the Town of Davidson Police and Public Information Departments.
